The South Shore Line - Northeast Indiana Commuter Transportation District
The South Shore Line, formally known as the Northeast Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD), is a public corporation which provides frequent passenger trains between South Bend, Indiana and Millenium Station in downtown Chicago, Illinois. This is perhaps the longest continuous running interurban railroad in the United States.
The railroad also provides freight service to industrial facilities along the line, but passenger trains are a priority. Passenger locomotives and train sets are powered by overhead electric catemaru. Freight locomotives are traditional diesel powered units.
