Timetable: Pere Marquette - Bad Axe Sub - Saginaw to Port Huron (via Bad Axe)

The Bad Axe Subdivision of the Pere Marquette extended from Saginaw Yard to Port Huron via route through Bad Axe in Huron County. This was originally a narrow gauge route which was changed to standard gauge around the turn of the century. The branch transported forest products and then argriculture products, specifically sugar beets. Station hours and siding capacity from 1942.

Time Line

1887. In the event of the PH&NW narrow gauge not being sold to the F&PM, it will probably be converted by its present owners to standard gauge, as the Saginaw & Durand company offer it the right of way and terminal facilities for a reasonable consideration. [PHTH-1887-0717]

1898. The following stations had agents during the day in 1898: Atkins, Jeddo, Amadore, Croswell, Applegate, Carsonville, Downington, Deckerville and Palms. Port Huron (Court Street) was open day and night. The line had two passenger/mail trains each way daily except Sunday. These trains ran between Port Huron and Sand Beach. [ETT-1898]

1890. July 17. Developments now look as if the F&PM is going to build a line from Bay City to the Sebewaing coal fields. The road will probably start from the belt line near E.Y. William's mill and run along the bay shore will give the company a chance to establish a large summer resort, as some of the prettiest places on the bay are along that shore. [DFP-1890-0717]

1970's. The C&O local originated in Bad Axe and operated east to Croswell on M-W-F and returned on Tu-Th-Sa. At Bad Axe, they would assemble their cars that came in from Saginaw on Train 806 the previous night, and then head east, doing most of their work enroute to Croswell, including trips over the Harbor Beach and Sandusky branches. On the return trip, they would make a straight run back to Bad Axe in order to make the connection with Train 803 which was usually called around noon (for Saginaw). When required, after returning to Bad Axe, they made a trip up to Kinde and/or Port Austin. [DH]
