Timetable: Lake Superior & Ishpeming - Republic Branch - Ishpeming Yard to Republic
A single track branch line was built in 1912. A significant portion of this line was built on top of the former DSS&A grade in 1952 and a short segment from MP 93.6 to Republic was laid on an abandoned C&NW spur. [LSI1]
This line was used almost exclusively to move ore from the Republic Mine to ore improvement sites at Humbolt and Empire Junction.
The line was removed in the 1980's.

Time Line
1911. Spring. The LS&I will have its line to the north lake properties of the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. ready for operation early this spring. With the exception of a little ballasting, the line is practically built, the steel viaduct at Ishpeming (over the C&NW and DSS&A) having been completed last week. [DET-1910-1227]
1912. This line is built by the LS&I. [MRL]
1948. LS&I Railroad To Extend Line. September.
Washington, D.C. (WNS) - Application of the Lake Superior & Ishpeming Railroad to the Interstate Commerce Commission for authority to construct and operate an extension of it North Lake Branch from its end about 6.5 miles West of the station at Ishpeming to a point in section 8 near the village of Republic, approximately 14.3 miles, all in Marquette County has been granted by the commission, the ICC announced.
Estimate cost of the construction is $900,000, of which $244,600 represents grading; $50,000 bridges and culverts; $156,000 ties; $123,000 rails; $54,900 other track material; $81,000 track laying and surfacing; $40,000 for ballast. No additional equipment will be required. [EDP-1948-0918]
1949. The LS&I purchase the line from Copps Spur to Duncan, 4.3 miles. The line is abandoned in 1956. [MRL]
1975. The LS&I line between Eagle Mills and Ishpeming is abandoned. The LS&I uses the joint line with the Soo and C&NW. [MRL]
1980. The LS&I purchases the C&NW from milepost 79.9 to Duncan. [MRL]
