Timetable: Lake Superior & Ishpeming - Little Lake Branch - Lawson to Princeton

This line was part of the original Munising Railway line from Munising to Little Lake, built in 1897. The C&NW was crossed at Little Lake in 1906 and the line was extended to Gwinn and Princeton. This was a single track branch line, used for forest products and the transport of ore.

The line from Gwinn to Little Lake was abandoned and removed between 1962 and 1965. The line from Little Lake to Lawson was abandoned and removed in 1979.

Time Line

1937. Railway postal service from Little Lake to Munising is replaced by a "star route" truck line, serving Carlshead, Skandia Dukee, sandell, Rumely, Eben Junction, Chatham, Forest Laand Munising.

1976. November 16. The LS&I has once again asked the ICC for permission to abandon nearly 60 miles of track in Marquette and Alger counties. Citing a decline in forest products and elimination of iron ore shipments, LS&I filed the request on October 26. The proposed abandonment would effect two separate stretches of track - 1 47.83 mile section between Munising and Marquette, and a 10.22 portion between Little Lake and Lawson. The line includes the stations at Munising, Munising Junction, Chatham, Eben Junction, Lawson, Vick, Little Lake, Dukes, Skandia and Harvey. [EDP1976-1116]
