Timetable: LS&I - Big Bay Branch - Presque Isle to Big Bay

A single track branch line. This line was built in 1906 for the purpose of logging along Lake Superior, with some of the timber used by Cleveland-Cliffs in their mines.

Timeline

July 31, 1893. Marquette. No opposition is expected to the petition by the LS&I railroad company for permission to discontinue passenger service between Marquette and Big Bay. The matter came up at this week's Commission meeting, when the Michigan Public Service Commission notified the city that it would hold a hearing on the petition in Marquette next month. 1937. Railroad mail service appears to end on the LS&I's Big Bay branch, and between Marquette and Munising, as the post office creates Star (motor) routes in their place. [EDP-1937-1121]
