Notes
Time Line
1902. March. The roadbed of the EJ&S railway will be leveled and put in good condition as soon as the frost is sufficiently out of the ground to permit the use of a steam shovel. There are now two passenger trains a day, connecting with the Pere Marquette at Bellaire. The roadbed of the D&C will also be improved by taking out the old ties and replacing them with new. This road crosses the GR&I at Alba and connects with the MC at Frederick, thereby giving East Jordan three trunk lines for shipment. [GRP-1902-0322]
1907. December 21. Portion of the power dam of the East Jordan Electric Light & Power company - located on Deer Creek - gave way releasing 28 feet head of water which swept down into the lake wrecking the East Jordan & Southern railroad bridge and washing out a stretch of the Detroit & Charlevoix railroad track. No one was injured. The D&C line was out for three days when it was repaired sufficiently to allow trains to pass. The EJ&S are working on a temporary bridge but at present are coming in over the D&C line. [CCH-1907-1221]
1909. EAST JORDAN & SOUTHERN R. R. This line was inspected October 21st. Extends from Bellaire, a junction point of the Pere Marquette R. R. to East Jordan, a distance of 19 miles, with branch lines to forest terminals that are used exclusively for the transportation of forest products. The main line is laid with 60 pound rail and same is in good condition. The track is well tied and the surface and alignment of track is good for the traffic presented. Switch stands are provided with various types of switch targets. No lights, no night service. This line is not generally fenced. However, fence is constructed where requested and lands enclosed by exterior fences. Frogs and switches generally blocked. There are no stations on this line with the exception of the one at East Jordan. This station has one waiting room and is sufficient for the traveling public. The public is handled on this line by a mixed train service. The coaches are equipped as required by law. The Russell logging cars are equipped with link and pin couplers. Highway crossing signs are in good repair. Very few bridge structures on this line and same were in good repair. The gate at the crossing of the Detroit & Charlevoix R. R. is in good repair. [MCR-1909]
1935. One round trip passenger train daily, except Sunday, (No. 1) departing from East Jordan at 11:30 a.m., arriving at Bellaire at 12:20 p.m. (No. 2) Leaving Bellaire at 1:00 p.m. and arriving back at East Jordan at 1:40 p.m. At flag stations, trains stop on signal to take on or let off passengers. "Trains will not stop where no time is shown". [Reference: Time Table No. 90, effective September 8, 1935]
