Time Line

1896. November 22. Surveyors have gone in from Omer on the Detroit & Mackinac Railway to work towards Au Gres and thence to Point Lookout, a distance of from thirteen to fifteen miles. Point Lookout on the map is designated as Sand Point. It is a summer resort patronized largely by Saginaw and Bay CIty people. The people of AuGres wish the Detroit & Mackinac to build a branch to that place and the resort, and the company will consider the advisability of extending the line. The right of way has been acquired a portion of the distance, and a bonus has been subscribed by Au Gres people. [DFP-1896-1122]

1902. Au Gres has another chance. The people of AuGres, who hopoed to interest the D&M railway in the project of building a line from Omar (sic) to that place and then on to Point Lookout pleasure resort, have been disappointed. The D&M will have nothing to do with the enterprise. Au Gres has now taken the matter up with the people of Standish on the Michigan Central and the latter have a committee appointed for the purpose of waiting upon President Ledyard as soon as a conference can be arranged by Supt. Coyle. In case the MC gives no encourgement to the project, all hopes will have been lost. [DFP-1902-0407]

1904. The D&M builds the Au Gres branch from Omer to Au Gres, 8.3 miles. [MRL]

1909. Omer to Au Gres. Very little fencing on this branch. Where fence is built it is in fair condition. Crossings and signs well maintained. Track fairly well surfaced. Light rail 50 and 56 pound. There are no stations on this branch between Omer and Au Gres. The station of Au Gres is small having only one waiting room, wood platform. No bulletin board for the bulletining of passenger trains. No telegraph line on this branch. Switch stands provided with single targets and locks, no switch lights. Informed by superintendent that no night trains are being run on this branch. Bridge structures receive all necessary repairs. [MCR-1909]

1927. The railroad had one round trip, 2nd class train in each direction (#21 and #22) on Wednesday and Saturday. This was likely a mixed passenger/freight train. The train began at Omer and stopped at Au Gres. All other locations were flag stops. There were no open stations along this line. [ETT-1927]

1965. The Au Gres branch is abandoned by the D&M. [MRL]
