• January. Fostoria, Ohio's NYC Jackson Street Tower was torn down, after many years of disuse. This was the location of the first centralized traffic control installation on the NYC lines in 1927, controlling their line from Stanley Yard near Toledo south to Berwick, Ohio. The CTC panel was saved by the Smithsonian Institute. [NYCHS-2022-Q3]

• January 29. WATCO begins providing rail service on the former CN Newberry subdivision between Trout Lake and Munising. They also take over the dormant line from Wisconsin to White Pine, via Bergland. The operation was purchased, and is operated under their Grand Elk railroad.

• April 22. Amtrak discontinues stopping trains in Michigan City, IN, due to low ridership from this stop and lack of funding from the state of Indiana. [MARP-2022-Sp]

• August. Patriot Rail acquires rail holding company Pioneer Lines, which operates lines in Michigan, including the Southern Michigan railroad in White Pigeon.  The deal is subject to regulatory approval. [Trains.com]

• Fall. WATCO, the new operator of the former DSS&A railroad line northwest of Trout Lake in the Upper Peninsula, builds a new engine house in Newberry. The railroad runs freight trains east (to Trout Lake) and west (to Munising) from here.
