May - Michigan utilities begin to close the seven remaining coal-fired electricity generating plants in a move to use natural gas. The first closed is in Luna Pier, north of Toledo on Lake Erie, which has been served by the CN.

July 12. The former D&TSL depot in Monroe is destroyed by fire. [MEV]

October 24. BO Tower in Kalamazoo is closed, leaving Delray as the last interlocking crossing tower in Michigan not co-located with a drawbridge. The tower was reportedly opened on October 2, 1914 and open for 102 years. [MRF-11/16]
- Lansing's MA Tower (Michigan Avenue) has found a permanent home at the Lansing Model Railroad Club in soutwest Lansing. After closure, MA was moved temporarily in Old Lansing. [PMT]
