  • Early 1920's:  Pere Marquette abandons Rodnew-Chippewa lake branch.  [IT-2/1974]

  • Late 1920's:  The Michigan Central abandons its spur from Mount Forest to Bentley.  [NK]

  • Late 1920's:  The New York Central (LSMS) is elevated through South Bend, Indiana  [LS]

  • The production of iron ore on the Gogebic Iron Range begins to steadily decline in the 1920's.  In the 1920's, 9 million tons of ore per year is shipped from this range through the Soo Line ore dock and the three C&NW ore docks at Ashland, Wisconsin.  [LSIOR]

  • After World War I, mules underground are largely replaced by by electric locomotives, and horses, which pulled timber above ground were replaced by steam tractors. [VOI]
