Story - Physical Condition - Keweenaw Central Railroad - 1909
This line was inspected August 18 [1909]. This line extends from Calumet Junction to Mandan, with a branch line to Crest View. This branch is used exclusively for resort business. The company has a public park and Casino at Crest View. The rail on the whole system is 60 pound, all in good condition, fastened with 6 bolt angle bars. All switches of the split point type. Switch stands are provided with double targets; no fence of any importance on the entire system. The passenger service is extended to Calumet over the Copper Range Railroad from Calumet Junction, a distance of about one mile. The track from Calumet Junction to the Mohawk Mine location has been built since last inspection. There are very few bridge structures on this railroad. The bridges that are constructed are first class, and well maintained. The passenger stations are small, being but portable houses, and the company expects to use them but temporarily. As soon as business warrants new stations will be built. At present a new station, which is very neat and convenient, is being constructed at Copper City. The track is generally ballasted with crushed stone, and the surface and alignment of track is equal to the traffic presented. The equipment, both freight and passenger, is as required by law. The trains on this road are operated under the standard code.
