Story - Physical Condition - East Jordan & Southern Railroad - 1909
This line was inspected October 21st [1909]. Extends from Bellaire, a junction point of the Pere Marquette R. R. to East Jordan, a distance of 19 miles, with branch lines to forest terminals that are used exclusively for the transportation of forest products. The main line is laid with 60 pound rail and same is in good condition. The track is well tied and the surface and alignment of track is good for the traffic presented. Switch stands are provided with various types of switch targets. No lights, no night service. This line is not generally fenced, however, fence is constructed where requested and lands enclosed by exterior fences. Frogs and switches generally blocked. There are no stations on this line with the exception of the one at East Jordan. This station has one waiting room and is sufficient for the traveling public. The public is handled on this line by a mixed train service. The coaches are equipped as required by law. The Russell logging cars are equipped with link and pin couplers. Highway crossing signs are in good repair. Very few bridge structures on this line and same were in good repair. The gate at the crossing of the Detroit & Charlevoix R. R. is in good repair.
