Location: Sebewaing, MI - Sebewaing Drawbridge
The Saginaw, Tuscola and Huron railroad built a swing bridge over the Sebewaing River when the line was completed here around 1882. At the time the road was built, the Sebewaing River was navigable.
Notes
The bridge, from pier to pier is 147 feet. [GMAP]. It continues to exist today but is no longer a moveable bridge.
The fixed bridge is now used by the Huron & Eastern.
Time Line
1890. This was reported as being a "jack-knife" type drawbridge. [MCR]
1941. The PM proposes to the Village Council to replace the current railroad swing bridge with permanent stationary girders and raise the elevation two feet to help control flooding. The War Department may object to the plan and require that a swing bridge continue to be maintained. [SEB-1941-0110]
1943. The PM announced that they will replace the bridge with a fixed girder bridge. [SEB-1943-1008]
