Location: RIpley, MI - Quincy Smelting Works

Quincy Smelter The Quincy Mining Company built a smelter in Ripley, approximately at the location of their former stamping works.

Notes

Quincy did not reopen their smelter during the last years of mining from 1937-1945. Instead, the Copper Range company did their smelting. The Copper Range did their smelting almost at cost since losing the Quincy work (to C&H) would have made their smelter uneconomic to operate.

Time Line

1951. From 1951 through 1959, the Quincy smelter was back up and running. They smelted and refind Copper Range concentrates. Once the White Pine smelter was operational, the last of the Champion's work went there. [Paul Meier, CPHS]
