Location: Bonafas, MI
Bonifas was a logging town/camp in Gogebic County, three miles north of Watersmeet, on the northeast side of Bass Lake. This was a camp of the Bonifas Lumber Company, which logged Carlson and Watersmeet townships. The Village was named after William Bonifas, the general manager of the firm. Bonifas was a member of the Gogebic county board of supervisors for many years, representing Carlson township (which later became part of Watersmeet township).
Notes
The lumber company was a subsidiary of the Kimberly-Clark corporation, in which Bonifas was a large stockholder. [IDG-1936-1125]
Bonifas became home of a CCC camp in the 1930's.
