Industry - R. Conner Lumber Company, Connerville, MI

The Conner Lumber Company was a major logging operation which operated north and east of Wakefield in Gogebic County about 1930. The company also owned the Connorville and Lake Superior railroad in the same vicinity.

Time Line

1966. Due to the purchase of 50,000 acres of land in the L'Anse area, log loading and shipments to Connorville have increased tremendously. At Connorvile, the Soo Line has a connection with their railroad thru a spur with an eastbound switch. Inbound cars of logs from the east must be handled to Thomaston and then returned on an eastbound tain. Outbound westbound loads must be picked up by eastbound trains and then backhauled.
