Location: Snow Yard, Lansing, MI

Snow Yard is located west of Lansing in Eaton County off Snow Road. The west entrance is at CP Mill. The yard has about 17 tracks and normally used as a coal storage facility and for multi-level auto carriers.

Time Line

1965. Snow Yard is built by the GTW in Delta Township. [LSJ-1971-1230]

1971. GTW moves Lansing operations from downtown to a new $370,000 yard, car repair building and engine servicing facility at Snow Road, west of Lansing. The 13-track switching yard, built in 1965, will now be the asdsembly and dispatch point for shipping Oldsmobile cars to all parts of the country. The yard will also ship products for the Ralston Purina company. The yard dispatches unit coal trains to the Lansing Board of Water and Light, and will service a new BOL Erickson plant.
