Location: River Siding, MI (Dickenson County)
River Siding was a location on the Chicago & North Western line between Iron Mountain and Watersmeet/Ironwood. It was located about 3 miles west of Antoine just east of the Montreal River and the Wisconsin state border. It was the last station before the main line entered into Wisconsin.
Notes
The C&NW had a 1,352' passing track here which was removed in 1927. [CNWV]
This was at milepost 31.7 from Powers.
The C&NW also had a siding here to the north which appears to be related to a gravel operation (see below). It was removed in 1927. [CNWV]
The old Schlesinger line came just north of here before ending at the Menominee River. There was no connection.
Time Line
1898. The River Siding Gravel Put opened in 1898 and remained in operation for about 25 years. The siding was removed in 1915. Material taken out was clay and gravel, excavated by steam shover. The 500,000 cubic yards of material was used in filling the Chapin Cave. [CNWV]
