Industry: Wells, MI - Paper Mill

Today, this is the Billerud Escanaba Mill. It is located in Wells Township northeast of the Escanaba River.


Notes

Known as the Escanaba Pulp & Pape Company. his mill initially entered the pulpwood market, making contracts for furnishing of spruce that a large supply of the material may be on hand when the mill is placed in operations. [EDP-1911=1102]

This plant was initially served by the E&LS and the Soo Line.


Time Line

1911. November. The Escanaba & Lake Superior is engaged in constructing a railroad bridge over the river leading to the pulp plant, offering a means of delivering pulpwood to the mill and an outlet foe the product of the company. [EDN-1911-1102]
