Station: North Escanaba, MI

North Escanaba was a station on the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad and was located approximately near Sheridan and 17th Street North on the north side of Escanaba. The railroad had a small depot here. [MH-12/2001]

The Soo Line also had a station here on their line through Gladstone.

Time Line

1914. The Soo Line station at North Escanaba by a long holdup man. Soo Line chief of detectives William Stevenson arrived at the station 30 minutes after the robbery and called for a long engine from Gladstone. The detective, on the engine, went back and forth for several miles until 4:00 am in hopes that the man would be apprehended but he was not found. The county poor farm was searched and every inmate was made to account for himself. [EMP-1914-0324]

Several nights later, a typewriter which was stolen in the robbery was found in the woods. Police believe the men thought the machine was a cash register. Nothing else was taken in the robbery. [LSJ-1914-0702]

1917. The MStP&SSM had an agent operator here on the day shift. [TRT]

1943. WANT AD: Soo Line Railroad wants 3 section men at North Escanaba. Rate of pay 50¢ per hour; time and a half for all over 48 yours. Report to Section Foreman Perry at North Escanaba. [EDP-1943-0604]
