Notes
Time Line
1889. A rather remarkable incident happed to the Harrison Branch train men. They were running at a rate of about 30 mph and while passing through one of the cuts north of Harrison (near Arnold Lake), the men in the baggage car were startled by the breaking of a light (pane) of glass out of the front door of the car. One of the men was sitting near the front door reading a paper and was covered with pieces of flying glass. Investigation showed a large grey rabbit on the floor, with its head nearly severed from the body, struggling in the last agonies of death. The rabbit was on the bank (of the track), became bewildered at the noise of the approaching train, and making a leap landed in front of the baggage car door just in time to go through the window, the glass cutting off its head.
