Location: Boyne City, MI - Michigan Tannery & Export Company
The Boyne City Tannery was built in 1901 by W.S. Shaw. Shaw was a partner of W.H. White, the owner of White Lumbar Company and the Boyne City, Gaylord & Alpena railroad. White came up with the idea of opening a tanning leather company. The tannery was very successful and produced six million pounds of leather shoe sole annually.
