Location: Hinman Yard, Battle Creek, MI (MC)

Hinman Yard was a Michigan Central yard on the east side of the city. It was located west of Michigan Avenue and primarily served the cereal industry.

Notes

It had a 140 car capacity with eight tracks in addition to the double main track.

The yard office was located on Porter Street, east of Spencer.

This yard served the nearby Kellogg factory buildings.

Hinman Yard had a westbound "hold out" signal at milepost 118. Operated by Nichols Tower, this allowed a MC dispatcher to put up a "J" order to the operator at Nichols to hold westward trains. This allowed a movement against the current of traffic on the #1 (westbound) main to HInman Yard without train orders, with only verbal permission from Nichols. [Comments from [RAHN]
