Notes
The ore dock was at the end of a DSS&A siding which left the main line near the depot and went north, to downtown L'Anse. It was at Front Street and Railroad Street. [SLHTS]
Time Line
1872. Construction of the H&O ore dock at L'Anse was contracted to the Muloch and Shields company. It was 546 feet long, 36 feet wide and 38 feet high, with 80 vessel pockets and a 75 ton capacity. Four additional pockets at the end were for "steamboat" loading which used vehicles which were wheeled onto the boats. The dock had three tracks, with the center track handling empties via a transfer table. [DSS]
1896. The ore dock is destroyed by fire.
