Station: Keweenaw Bay, MI

Keweenaw Bay, in Baraga County, was located on the Duluth, South Shore & Atlantic line between Baraga and Houghton. It was the junction of the South Shore's branch line west to to Mass City.

Time Line

1905. Passenger traffic north of Keweenaw Bay was seriously interfered with on account of a collision on the DSS&A railroad at Keweenaw Bay, two freight trains meeting on a sharp curve near the station. Neither train was able to see the other in time to avoid the collision. It took five hours to clear the track so that traffic could be resumed. The St. Paul train had considerable delay, passengers for the copper country were transferred to train No. 9 from Ontonagon which arrived at Houghton at 5:45 o'clock. The men on both trains escaped injury by jumping. [LAS-1905-0114]

1918. The DSS&A had an operator/agent here and an assistant during the day and afternoon shifts. This was listed as a "joint" agency. [TRT]
