Pine River was settled in 1854 with a sawmill constructed here. It was a station on the Detroit & Mackinac railroad in Arenac County.

Time Line
1914. Robbers blew open the safe and slot machine at the Pine River depot on the D&M railroad late last night, securing several dollars. The depot had also been robbed a few days ago. [DFP-1914-0201]
