Au Gres was settled as early as 1828 in Arenac County near Lake Huron. It was at the end of the Detroit & Mackinac railroad branch line from Omer.

Time Line
1902. Having been unsuccessful in convincing the D&M to build a branch line from Omer to Au Gres, the people of Au Gres are working with residents of Standish to convince the Michigan Central to build such a branch line. The committee is trying to get a meeting with MC President Ledyard. [DFP-1902-0407]
