Station: Elsdon, IL

Elsdon was located at milepost 8.8 on the GTW South Bend subdivision. The railroad had a yard here. This was a junction with the Chicago & Western Illinois railroad.

Time Line

1883. The GTW installs a 60' steel through girder turntable at Elsdon, IL. [GTBB]

1890, The GTW builds two ice houses at Eldson. One is a 32'x36' 14' frame holding 4,000 ton capacity, The second is 36'x145' 22' high and holds 1,700 tons. [GTBB]

1915. The GTW had a 2,722 car passing track here. [GTOS-1915-1102]

1917: The GTW had a operator telegraphers here around the clock. Telegraph call was "SF". [TRT]
