Location: South Bend, IN - High Street

High Street the junction of the GTW and New York Central railroads, in South Bend. For westbound trains, this was the beginning of the 1.6 miles of joint GTW/NYC track through South Bend. In 1971, this was a mechanical interlocking. [GTWET-1971-0426].

Notes

This interlocking was controlled by HF tower. [GTWHS-2024-Sum]

According to a 1964 NYC track diagram, the double track GTW connected with the double track NYC using slip switches. The NYC also had three freight mains here which the GTW could connect to at Fellows Street.

The NYC maintained this crossing with the GTW paying 50% of the cost.
