This was a gate-tender's tower on the Union Belt of Detroit railroad which covered both Artillery and Wabash avenue crossings.

Time Line
1929. January. Fatal injuries were suffered by John Roby, 45 years old of Detroit when he fell 15 feet from the window of his gate-tender's tower on the Union Belt railway at 1 p.m. Saturday. He was found on the ground under his tower by a passerby and taken to Receiving hospital in a semi-conscious condition. He suffered internal injuries and it was feared his skull was fractured. He said he fell from the window as he leaned out, but was to ill to give particulars. He expired at the hospital, [DFP-1929-0113]
