Location: Livernois Avenue Crossing, Detroit, MI (DTRR/PRR)
Livernois Avenue Crossing was located in northwest Detroit at the crossing of the Detroit Terminal Railroad and a Pennsylvania Railroad branch line which headed north and east from P-Company Junction to the Highland Park area.
Image info: Top, a view of the Livernois crossing looking west. The Detroit Terminal goes to the left, and the PRR to the right. 2nd image, a closer view of the interlocking which had dwarf signals in all directions, indicating a low-speed crossing. 3rd image, a blueprint of the crossing in 1945. [All 3 are Charles McQueen photos, Michael Delaney collection]. 4th & 5th drawings of the interlocking, one from the 1940's and a second from the Penn Central era.
Notes
This was an automatic interlocking with no tower.
The Detroit Terminal was a double main track line at this location. They also had a passing track on the south side of the main which ended at this location with a hand switch which was outside of the interlocking. There was not much change in the crossing over the years.
Note the high tension poles along the DT right of way. These held two sets of lines running between the Ford Highland Park and Rouge facilities. [KB]
