Interlocking: Fort Street Crossing (MC/NYC/DSR) - Detroit, MI

This interlocker controlled the crossing of the MC/NYC West Detroit to Toledo lines and the Detroit Street Railway line which ran down the middle of Fort Street. During the 1920's the MC/NYC was elevated and the DSR ran below. It is likely that this interlocking controlled the Wabash route as well but this has not been confirmed.

Time Line

1924. July. Police inspector Thomas O'Grady, chief of the traffic department, announced that for a year or more West Fort street would be closed to motor vehicle traffic between Woodmere and Springwells avenues, during construction of a grade separation at the Michigan Central railroad crossing. Eastbound automobiles will detour at Woodmere avenue to Dearborn avenue, while westbound cars will detour north at Springwells avenue. [DFP-1924-0717]
