Location: Detroit & Milwaukee (D&M) Yard, Detroit, MI
The Grand Trunk Western had a yard north of Milwaukee Junction known as D&M yard (which was short for Detroit & Milwaukee, the predecessor name of the GTW). The yard was on the east side of their main line here. [MCTC-1950].
Notes
This was one of the oldest railroad yards in Michigan. The yard was located between Milwaukee Junction and Holbrook Avenue in Detroit.
The yard served a General Motors Chevrolet plant, which was east of the yard. The MC also served the plant. The yard had 11 tracks which each held 65 to 14 cars.
The GTW had a north "thoroughfare" (a 3rd freight main to the yard), and a south "thoroughfare" to serve industrial plants along the line. [GTWHS-2023-F]
The yard office was at the north end of the yard at Holbrook Avenue.
Today, the yard and plant are gone.,
