Location 3rd Street PRR Freight Terminal, Detroit, MI

The PRR constructed a large 2-story freight terminal adjacent to Fort Street Union Depot on Third Street in 1923.


Notes

The original building was 60 feet x 700 feet and 2-story. The front portion of the building was 3-stories and used for offices. Four of the tracks extended into the freight shed portion of the building. The PRR also had a smaller outbound freight house north of this building. [CQII]


Time Line

1923. October 5. The freight terminal is opened by the PRR. [CQII]

1949. Part of the property of the building was needed for the new John Lodge expressway. A larger 50 x 287 foot building was constructed and part of the old building was torn down. The new building was finished in 1950.
