Location: Lake Shore Junction, Detroit, MI

Lake Shore Junction was on the Grand Trunk Western (Detroit to Grand Haven) line, just south of Milwaukee Junction. This was the connection with the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern, which used the Brush Street Union Station until the Lake Shore began using the new Michigan Central station about 1908.

Time Line

1881. September. In an article discussing a fatal accident, it is mentioned that the roundhouse of the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern is not yet completed and engines are temporarily backed into a siding track. [DFP-1881-0925]

1879. The LS&MS reports business has never been better. The crops of the southern tier of counties were very heavy this year and grain is now being sent forward as fast as means can be provided for shipment. At the Detroit station Sunday, the unprecedented number of 400 cars were unloaded and dispatched to points upon the main line in this State. [DFP-1879-0930]
