Location: Detroit, MI - MCRR Car Ferry

The Michigan Central railroad ran car ferry operations across the Detroit River to Windsor, Ontario. Along with similar ferry operations to Amesburg Ontario, this was the only way to reach Detroit by railroad until the tunnel was built. Even after the tunnel was in operation, car ferries continued to bring freight cars with hazardous loads across the river instead of using the tunnel.
