1895.

The Sanborn-Perris Map Company, Ltd. lists the following companies/industries in the district as of 1895. They note that the Saginaw River varies in width from 300 to 7090 feet and is navigable. In addition to the regular fire department there is one fire-boat kept by the mill owners. The surrounding buildings are mostly one and two-story. Streets are practically level and generally paved.

Time Line

1877. The salt manufacturers in the Saginaw Valley are beginning to use dynamite torpedoes in their salt wells, and with good effect. [LCS-1101]

1895. The Michigan Central had a freight depot on the Saginaw River at Van Buren Street.
