Notes

The Big Cut Gravel Mine was located in Presque Isle County about four miles east of Millersburg. This mine was related to the business interests of the Detroit & Mackinac Railway. The gravel mine, which had common ownership with the D&M, was closed in the early 1980's.


Time Line

1928.  A Plymouth DLC-6 Climax locomotive #120 with a 44" wheel gauge was purchased by the D&M for the Alpena Gravel Co. at Big Cut. In service on 9/11/1928. Engine was later rebuilt to standard gauge and used as the D&M's shop locomotive at Tawas. [FB]
