Notes
Time Line
1878. The Michigan Air Line company offered Barnes Brothers of Rochester, $500 for the right of way through their premises, but the proprietors asked for $1,500. A jury of Pontiac business men reviewed the premises, and awarded Barnes Brothers $575. [PHTH-1878-1129]
1879. The engine of GT train No. 10, Michigan Air Line, jumped the track at Rochester Monday and ran within "an ace" of plunging sideways over the end of a bridge into a creek eight or ten feet below. The fireman, who was managing the engine, with great presence of mind instantly reversed the wheels of the engine and thereby prevented any accident except some slight damage to the engine. The engine was free from the train but was going at a rate of about 15 miles an hour. The engine was put on the track by 4:30 p.m. detaining the passenger train only an hour and a half. 1917. The GTW had an agent here during the day shift. [TRT]
