Location: Dummyville, MI

Dummyville was a location on the Detroit & Toledo Shore Line at mp. 3.8, just north of the Ohio state line. It was between Shantee Creek and the north branch of Honey Creek. There was a trailing point crossover here. [EFI]

In 1964, railroads were allowed to eliminate firemen on locomotives in states that permitted it. Michigan had no local requirement, but Ohio still required a fireman. The D&TSL set up a shanty here, just inside Michigan, so that the Ohio fireman could disembark the locomotive and then wait for the next southbound train. This shanty, called Dummyville, was used for this purpose until 1968. The cabin remained until the early 1980's. [EFI]
