Bachelor was settled in Mason County about 1884 and was the location of a local sawmill from the Alden Batchelor & Company. The railroad identified the town as Batchellor. [MPN]
Bachelor was located about five miles north of Walhalla Junction in eastern Mason County on the Pere Marquette branch line to Manistee.

Mr. Batchellor at Batchellor station on the F&PM twenty miles southeast of Manistee, lost 1,000,000 feet of lumber during Saturday afternoon [due to fire] and his mill and another million feet of choice lumber was only saved by the heroic conduct of the mill employees.
