Time Line
1912. U.S. Senator Isaac Stephenson, who started on his annual fishing trip down the Escanaba river on Tuesday, with a large party of friends, suddenly became ill yesterday morning at a camp of the party on the Escanaba river near Watson. Supt. C.W. Kates, of the E&LS railroad with Dr. H.W. Long, left immediately after the announcement of Mr. Stephenson's illness was received here, by Mr. Kates railroad auto for Watson, and from that point walked to the camp. Immediately after Mr. Kates had left Wells with his private equipment, a special train was run to Watson to bring the senator to Escanaba and other members of his party. He was too ill to be evacuated by train. [EMP-1912-0830]
