The Huron Mountain Club was a private resort at Big Bay, Michigan. It was reached by the Lake Superior & Ishpeming railroad and also by car.

Notes

The Huron Mountain club property fronts on Lake Superior and it is surrounded by heavy woods, much of which was owned by Henry Ford. It is closed to all except club members and their guests. There is no telephone at the camp, the nearest one being at Big Bay, ten miles from the club. [EDP-1934-0728]

Time Line

1934. July. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ford arrived at the LS&I (Presque Isle) ore dock at 2:30 this afternoon and immediately left for their cabin at the Huron Mountain Club, about 45 miles from here. They were accompanied by two friends, whose names could not be learned.

They came here on the Ford company ore carrier, Henry Ford II, which cleared for Superior, WI after the Ford party left the boat. It was at the Huron Mountain Club that Ford took refuge a year ago from newspapermen seeking to interview him regarding the company's refusal to sign the NRA automobile code and where he issued his now well known statement: "I have nothing to say about the NRA. I have nothing to say at all."
