Located in Bancroft, the Bancroft Furnace was here in a clearing on the Dead River about four miles from Marquette. The Bancroft Iron Company operated a furnace here for processing of iron ore. It was a station on the Marquette, Houghton & Ontonagon railroad (later DSS&A/Soo). [MPN]
