Location: Ishpeming, MI - DSS&A Facilities
The Duluth, South Shore & Atlantic railway entered Ishpeming from two locations.
The original MH&O main line was along the south side of Ishpeming. It came into the area from Negaunee near East Division and Jasper Street, then coming southwest curving south of the Lake Superior mine, west to Withrop Junction and then on to Champion and beyond.
The MH&O purchased the upstart Marquette & Western soon after it was completed. The M&W entered Ishpeming parallel to the C&NW main line, curving through downtown Ishpeming, curving north around the Lake Superior mine and then south to Winthrop Junction. This line became the DSS&A's passenger main line and they built a depot and freight house at Second and Euclid streets, across from the C&NW station. The DSS&A had a four track yard parallel to their main line, east of Second Street.
