Location: Grand Rapids, MI - Madison Street Tower

Madison Street Tower was on the southeast side of Grand Rapids and was an interlocking of the PM main line crossing the Grand Rapids Railway electric street car line. This interlocking was staffed by the PM.

Time Line

1914. The PM installed a 12-lever mechanical half-interlocking machine here to control the crossing of the two railroads. [TSE-1/1915]

1926. Semaphores are replaced with color-light signals at the interlocker. [MPUC-1926]

1927. The leverman at this tower was paid 54¢ per hour, likely the lowest paid tower in the Grand Rapids area. [PMTA]
