Industry: Kalamazoo, MI - James River Paper

The James River Paper company had a large plant in Kalamazoo along the east side of the NYC Grand Rapids branch, between E. Paterson and Mosel streets.

Time Line

1984. The plant has service from both the Grand Rapids Branch and the CK&S. There are 5 spur tracks at the plant. The plant is services from the former CK&S North Yard. Checker Motors also had a siding north of this plant. James River also had an operation north of here, just south of Madison street, as well as an operation north of the Kalamazoo River on the former CK&S at Hercules street. [ZTS]

1984. As of this date, the former NYC Grand Rapids branch ended at Bemis street. The former CK&S branch ended just south of Rosedale street. [ZTS]

2023. The plant continues to exist and receives rail service but the ownership is unknown. The CK&S is no longer in existance. [GMAP]
