Notes

Time Line

1903. A new coaling facility is installed at Jackson. [MCR-1903]

1952. Fire following an explosion destroyed part of the NYC's big roundhouse at Jackson. Two railroad workers were injured in the blaze. The fire followed an explosion of a portable crane. Four steam locomotives and one diesel were badly damaged but other engines were run out on a turntable before the flames could catch them. The fire was confined to the northeast section of the structure, about ¼ of the roundhouse. Firewalls saved the rest of the NYC shops from conflagration. [BCE-1952-1120]
