Napoleon was founded about 1830 in southeast Jackson County. A station was established on the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Jackson branch when it came through.

Time Line
1882. October. The eastward freight train of the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern ran over and killed 20 sheep and wounded four others, the property of Edward Halliday, two miles north of Napoleon. [DFP-1882-1019]
