Image info: A MILW valuation map of the Dunn Mine in 1918. This was joint trackage for the C&NW and MILW at the time. Note the Sawyer-Goodman branch. The railroad had two passing sidings here, likely used for car storage, and two spurs, one with a trestle likely for coal delivery. [MILV]
1912. William Bowman, engineer on the logging engine at the Sawyer-Goodman camp was badly scaled in a rear end collision and his brother who was firing on the engine with him received severe bruises which will keep him in the hospital for several days. The brothers are at Dr. Larson's hospital in Crystal Falls and resting easily at this writing. The engineer will be confined to the hospital for six weeks.
The engine had shoved a number of cars up to the top of a grade and left them, supposing that they were securely anchored. The engine was uncoupled and started away down the track when the cars got loose and started down the track after the engine. The men in the cab didn't see the cars approaching, the first intimation they had of danger being the crash. William Bowman was caught between the cab and tender and burned badly. The two men were from Gould City and both single. [DD-1912-1221]
